Long-weekend scything course

Join us for a long-weekend of scything instruction this summer and for in-depth instruction to learn or improve your scything,

under the expert tuition of a master-scyther from Austria, Christiane Laganda. 

Enjoy 2.5 days of teaching with supervised practice, an afternoon at a nearby traditional agricultural fête,

and delicious meals using local produce.

 

  • Arrive Thursday evening 9th to settle in. Evening meal optional extra.

  • Teaching days (Friday 10th, Saturday 11th, Sunday morning 12th): we cover all the skills taught on the day courses but in more depth: setting up, safety, sharpening, peening, scything in the field...

  • Accommodation is either here at Catalo or in similar standard chambres d'hôtes nearby.

  • 3 breakfasts, lunches and teas provided. Option of a shared 3-course evening meal here at Catalo with your hosts and fellow scythers, or explore the local restaurants in Saint Antonin Noble Val.

  • Sunday afternoon at a small, delightful 'Fête de Moisson' nearby, where you can work as a group giving a demonstration to the public and watch other demonstrations of traditional French farming practices using reaping, cutting and turning machines drawn by animals and early tractors. Optional extra of an evening 5-course meal at the fête shared with the locals at trestle tables - a truly French way to round off your weekend!

  • Monday morning 13th : depart - or book extra nights and stay on for the local Bastille Day celebrations in the area (14th July).

Prices for single occupancy scyther for the 3-day/4-night package, including room, breakfast, lunch, tea, 

scything equipment for the weekend, instruction and afternoon at the fête:

460€-480€ depending on accommodation booked.

Tourist tax included. Evening meals (optional) and travel to and from Catalo not included.

Price for couples sharing a room (with the second person either scything or not):

500€-720€ per couple depending on accommodation and courses booked.
